Gary Thain after Uriah Heep

People don't know much about Gary's last year. Several weeks after he was fired from Heep he tried to join some other music bands, but nobody wanted him as an ill man. His illness became worse, he had problems with his heart, the problem with the Heroin became worse and sometimes he couln't move his legs. Mika left him and he met some other girls, but it didn't last that much. People also say that Bron gave him much money as he fired him and when he was fired Bron said he was invalid. And so the problems became bad and worse; the drug problem, especially with Heroin, his heart problem, his depressions. The "Pop"-magazine visited him when he was again in hospital and they said he wasn't a normal people anymore. Some weeks before he died he had some conflicts with the law and they wanted him to go to prison, but he never went. I think it was because he said he would go to hospital again.

Then on the 8th of December 1975 he was found dead in his flat in Norwood Green in the bathroom. His girlfriend Yoko found him, he died of a drug overdose. His doctor said his heart had defects with the rythmn and it stopped because of this defects along with the Heroin overdose. He was only 27 years old, along with names such as Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, who died at the same age. There are some speculations about his death, some say he died in March 1976, some say he was killed because his girlfriend was from India and her family didn't want him to be with her. But, I think, the fact is this with the 8th December.

Another fact is, that he could be still alive if the others had helped him with his problems, but they decided to fire him. Perhaps some nice words and some help could help him, because Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin also had Heroin problems and he is still alive and even was thiner than Gary at those days.

The other real fact is that he was a great bassist, he had created his own style and he left a legacy that will last forever!! And for me he will always remain my favourite bassist and musician along with Ritchie Blackmore and Jimmy Page ...
